Data privacy statement
Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our Porsche Club. In order for you to feel safe and comfortable when visiting our website, we take the protection of your personal data and its confidential treatment very seriously.
With these data protection notices we would therefore like to inform you about when we store which data and how we use it — of course in compliance with the applicable European data protection regulations.
Anonymous data collection
When you access our Internet pages, our web servers automatically collect information of a general nature. This includes the type of web browser, the operating system used, the domain name of the Internet service provider, the IP address of the computer used, the website from which you are visiting us, the pages you visit on our website and the date and duration of your visit. This is only information which does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about your person. We only evaluate this data for statistical purposes and anonymously.
Collection and processing of personal data
Personal data is only collected if you provide it voluntarily, for example to register for personalized services such as the execution of an order, registration for events or participation in a forum. Your data is encrypted before transmission and processing to protect it from unauthorized access. An exception to this rule is the sending of e-mails.
Use and transfer of the collected data
The personal data collected on our website will be used for order processing or processing of your enquiries and, if necessary, processed in another Porsche Club South Africa — Cape internal computer system.
Your data will not be sold, rented or made available to third parties in any other way. Personal data will only be transmitted to state institutions and authorities within the framework of mandatory national legal provisions. Our employees and agencies are committed to strictest confidentiality.
Cookies
Our pages use so-called cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard drive by a website. Cookies do not damage your computer and contain no viruses. The cookies on our website do not collect any personal data. We use the information contained in cookies to make it easier for you to use our pages and tailor them to your needs.
Of course, you can also view our website without cookies. If you do not want cookies to be stored on your computer, you can deactivate this option in the system settings of your browser. You can delete stored cookies at any time in the system settings of your browser. If you do not accept cookies, however, this may lead to functional restrictions of our offers.
IP address (anonymous)
The legal basis for this is the fulfilment of our legal obligations in the area of data security and our legitimate interest in eliminating faults and guaranteeing the security of our offers. In addition, this data is also processed for analysis purposes — without being assigned to a specific person.
If you wish to do so in connection with your contact, you can take advantage of the Porsche Club member and prospect support. For this purpose, the above-mentioned data provided by you (e.g. vehicle data, date of birth, interests) will be stored in a database or table administered by the Porsche Club South Africa — Cape, if you wish so. In this case, the Porsche Club South Africa — Cape can use the data for individual member and prospective customer support, for promotions as well as for vehicle-related services of Porsche and can contact you for these purposes via the communication channels you require.

Upon request, we will inform you in writing whether and which personal data about you are stored by us. If you are registered as a user for the Porsche Club South Africa — Cape Login, you have the option of viewing your data yourself and, if necessary, modifying or deleting them. You can revoke your consent to the storage of your personal data at any time by a short message for the future.
In addition, you can contact our Board of Management if you have any questions regarding the processing of your personal data, suggestions or complaints.
Porsche Club Cape mobile app
This section covers personal information processed through our mobile app, in addition to the website practices above. It is governed by South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and the data described here is held on our own infrastructure and with the service providers named below — not on the Porsche club website system described under Security.
What we collect. Your name, title and membership number; contact details (email and phone); postal and home address; South African ID number, date of birth and occupation; emergency-contact details and, where you provide them, spouse and company/invoicing details; your Porsche(s) and their details; profile and vehicle photos and any event-gallery photos or videos you post; and your membership, event-RSVP and payment records.
Location. When — and only when — you open turn-by-turn navigation for a club social run, the app uses your device’s precise location to guide you and to show your position to other members on the same drive. Location is used only while the navigation screen is open; the app never accesses your location in the background.
Notifications. If you enable notifications, we register a device push token with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can deliver event, RSVP and club announcements to your device.
Payments. Membership and event payments are processed by PayFast, our payment gateway. Card and banking details are entered on PayFast’s secure page and are never seen or stored by us or the app — we keep only a record that a payment was made and its amount.
Service providers. We share the minimum data necessary with providers that process it on our behalf, under contract and not for their own purposes:
- Auth0 (Okta) — secure sign-in and identity
- Mailgun — sending email
- Cloudflare R2 — photo and video storage
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications
- Mapbox — maps and navigation
- PayFast — payment processing
We do not sell or rent your personal information, we do not display advertising, and we run no third-party analytics or tracking in the app. All app data is encrypted in transit (TLS). You can delete your account and data at any time — see Account & data deletion below. For any privacy query, contact membership@porscheclubcape.co.za.
Account & data deletion
Members can delete their account and personal data at any time. In the Porsche Club Cape mobile app, go to More → Delete account and follow the prompts; on the member website the same option is available under More. If you cannot access the app, email membership@porscheclubcape.co.za from your registered address and we will process the deletion for you. Full instructions are on our Account & Data Deletion page.
When you delete your account, access is revoked immediately and your personal information — name, contact details, ID number, address, date of birth, vehicles and profile photo — is permanently erased after a 30-day grace window (during which the committee can reverse an accidental deletion). For legal, tax and accounting obligations under South African law (including POPIA), we retain transactional records — payments, membership renewals and signed event indemnities — in an anonymised form, no longer linked to your identity, for up to five years, after which they are purged.
